About Ace

A photograph of Ace Tayloe

Ace Tayloe grew up in Colorado, the Marshall Islands, and Vermont; they originally came to the area to attend Smith College, where they graduated in 2012 with a major in Computer Science. They have lived in Ward 3 of Northampton since the summer of 2015. After many years of renting, Ace was able to co-purchase a home with three other people in 2019. This was only possible as a group effort and could not have been done just a year later, as housing prices skyrocketed.

Ace previously worked as a software developer at Financial Partners Inc, a company making software for agriculture banks, and as a computer science lab instructor at Mount Holyoke College. They currently work as a sales associate at Jackson & Connor and as an independent tailor. Each change has allowed them more flexibility with their time, which now allows them to run for City Council when many other working people cannot.

Ace served for four years on the Northampton Housing Partnership, a mayoral appointed volunteer board that works for affordable housing. They helped pen legislation to abolish broker’s fees from tenants, an act voted on unanimously by City Council to pass in 2022. They have also volunteered for neighborhood initiatives like the Walking School Bus in 2023 and Western Mass Mutual Aid in 2020, and acted as a legal observer with the National Lawyers Guild’s Massachusetts branch in 2023.

You may have heard Ace calling into the WRSI “Nerd Wars” segment or at karaoke nights at various local venues. In their leisure time, they read, craft, play video and role playing games, and listen to podcasts. They live with their partner, K. Zdepski, and their cat, Toast.
